Greetings on this Third Sunday of Advent.
I was attracted to the end of this Sunday’s Gospel of Matthew. Our Lord tells us the new kingdom He brings into the world is so great, it makes us greater than John the Baptist! Wow. We may contemplate this awesome news all throughout Advent.
It is great news. Here at Saint Mary Parish, we have great news. The Parish Council is finally in session. I attempted this just before the pandemic took hold, but you know how that went. We met last week for the first time. I am excited and encouraged by our discussion. We have a great group of folks, some nominated by parishioners and some appointed. The council represents our parish community well. I want the council to advise, provide critical input on the current and future life of the parish, and develop council structure and norms that will serve the needs of the parish. This will take time, but most importantly we have the right group of folks to get us off to a great start. This is great news.
The Rosary party of last Sunday is yet another piece of great news. It was awesome to see so many children and young folks having fun making Rosary beads. We are grateful for all those who made it happen. Those little special knots are no joke… they are challenging. Overall it was a great event.
The departure of Fr. Augustin is not great news. I miss him already! In a general way I always knew this time would come but it was rather abrupt. Now it is here, some adjustments are in place and it is difficult. I want to encourage everyone to be patient and approach the challenges with charity for one another. I am seeing this but do wish to affirm our charitable response. It is not easy. As I mentioned at each Mass last weekend, the new Sunday schedule will take effect on January 1, 2023.
Finally, I want to remind everyone of the importance of the Grand Annual. This is essential for Saint Mary Parish. Everything that happens here is dependent upon your contributions. If you have already given, I want to thank you. If you have not given, please consider supporting this critical effort.
Come Let Us Adore Him!
Don’t forget that He is here for your Adoration each Friday… all day Adoration in the Saint Mary Chapel! Spend some time with our Lord! Believe me, it is worth it!
