The church and our faith proclaim the Mass as our greatest prayer. This sacrificial offering is the Paschal Mystery of His death and resurrection. In the Paschal Mystery we call Mass, Christ offers Himself in order to allow our lives to join in His death and resurrection. This act of sacrifice communicates His intention for unity and salvation. It is here that the priest may offer this intention of Christ that each Mass communicates.
Intentions do not have to be just for the dead: they make beautiful gifts for any special occasion: birthday, anniversary, in thanksgiving for a prayer answered, etc. For example, offer an intention for someone who is struggling with a serious illness or other life trauma shows you want the Lord to support them in their need.
