If you are looking for an area of community service, you might consider the following organizations:

·        St. Mary’s School seeks Bingo Workers (Friday nights), Library volunteers, and people for Publicity, Alumni, Fundraising and Development.

  • Friendly Visitor – Spend an hour a week as a friendly visitor to homebound seniors who seldom see a friendly face.  Make someone’s day special.
  • Grocery Shopper – Shop for a homebound senior once a week at a time and place convenient for you.  Assist in putting away groceries while you share the news of the day.
  • Medical Transportation Escort – Make sure that seniors get crucial weekday medical care.  Drive to and from medical appointments, provide companionship during the trip and help ease the anxiety that often accompanies seeing the doctor or dentist.
  • Meals–on–Wheels Drivers – Deliver meals to seniors who cannot prepare food for themselves.  Spend a lunch hour once a week or once a month.
  • Nursing Home Ombudsman advocate on behalf of nursing home residents and their families.
  • Office and Special Projects assistants are needed weekdays in the Burlington office.

·         Mission of Deeds Founded in 1993 by a member of St. Mary's Parish Family, Mission of Deeds is a non-profit, volunteer organization providing assistance to those who are beginning a new life after having been homeless. Clients include battered women, their children, older people who have been abandoned, and countless others who have lost their homes and possessions due to circumstances beyond their control. MOD has only one full time employee, and relies on volunteers for the work that is accomplished every day.  MOD is looking for additional volunteers, specifically people to work on the truck, picking up furniture and donated goods for sorting and delivery to needy families. They also need computer assistance for letter writing and data entry. Can you help? Call: (781) 944-9797.
