Message from Fr. Michael – December 10, 2017

Our Advent journey continues to provide opportunities for prayer, works of charity, and reflection on the Birth of Christ. The Advent candles burn brightly not only in our homes, but also in our hearts as we prepare a way for the Lord. Often we hear the words to make ready the way of the Lord during this season of Advent. This is a time to fill in the valleys, straighten the paths, and fill in the holes of our lives with the truths of Christ and His Love for others. Advent challenges us not only to look back to the Birth of Christ, but also to look forward to His Coming again in Glory. Watchful and prayerful expectation is the call sent out to each of us.

On Tuesday evening December 12, at 7 p.m., we will be having our Parish Advent Penance Service. All are most welcome to attend and to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, if desired. There will be several priests assisting to facilitate and share in this sacramental ministry.

The Grand Annual Collection continues within the Parish. This collection is vital for the overall financial health of the Parish and funds about 30% of our budget. A second Appeal Letter was sent to parishioners this past week asking/reminding them that their shared financial responsibilities are important. Your contributions provide for the salaries, benefits, insurances, programming, maintenance, and the many other ways the parish continues to be a living witness of Christ here in Winchester and beyond. Thank you to all who have already donated and to those who will before the end of this calendar year for tax purposes. A special thank you to all who contributed to the Retired Religious Collection this year. We collected a little over $5,000 dollars for this important collection.

“Lord Jesus, as the length of daylight grows shorter each day, we ask you to protect us from the darkness, especially the darkness of the Evil One, who seeks to draw us away from the straight course. You are never far from us except for our blindness and indifference of this Advent journey. Fill us with your grace and determination to keep our lives and hearts focused on You who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen.
