Children & Youth Ministry
Children's Protection
Committee
St. Mary's is implementing an archdiocesan program to prevent child abuse in
our Catholic institutions. Members of the committee will help to teach other
adults how to prevent abuse by recognizing suspicious behavior and creating a
safe environment.
Religious Education
Religious Education classes are held every week for grades 1-11 in order to
help our children grow in their knowledge and love of God, their understanding
of our faith, and prepare them for the sacraments of Reconciliation, First
Communion and Confirmation. Currently there are almost 800 students in the
program, and 75 volunteer teachers. Volunteers are always needed to serve as
teachers, monitors and receptionists for our religious education program.
Vacation Bible School (Bible
Camp)
This is held during the summer vacation for children in the 6-10 age
groups. The chosen theme is presented to the children in an attractive and
creative manner by members of the Youth Group.
Youth Council
This is the teen-led teen planning board. It meets on the first Wednesday
of every month from 7:00-9:00 PM in the Parish Center. This council serves the
same function as the Parish Council, but for youth concerns and activities.
Youth Group
This group puts into action the activities planned by the Youth Council. All
teens are welcome. Typical activities are: car washes, pumpkin carving,
Thanksgiving activities, Pot-Luck dinners, soup kitchens and many similar
activities. Youth Mass is celebrated once a month as the 11:30AM Sunday
liturgy. This is a chance for teens to minister to the parish as lectors,
Eucharistic ministers, greeters and Gift Bearers. The music is more
contemporary and geared towards teens.
