CatholicTV has introduced a new “widget” which is essentially a miniature television set that can be put onto any website. The widget is called “CatholicTVjr”. The CatholicTVjr widget provides over 30 different television programs, each offering as many as 27 full episodes. The offering of so much free television programming is unprecedented. All 4 major national television networks offer widgets, but only CatholicTVjr offers full-length programs. The Director of CatholicTV, Fr. Robert Reed, came up with the idea because he had “the desire to share CatholicTV’s content with dioceses, parishes, schools, and anyone who has a website. It’s the world’s first Catholic television widget”, says Reed. Pope Benedict XVI dedicated World Communications Day 2010 to the theme “The priest and pastoral ministry in a digital world: new media at the service of the Word.” CatholicTV originates in Boston and is a non-profit corporation. There will never be a charge for this service in support of this theme to reach every corner of the world with the joy of the Good News.
